Medicine reminders
Medicine reminders,
for the whole family.
AlongWell reminds you when each family member’s medicine is due. Type a medicine the way the prescription reads, such as “Metformin 500 twice a day after food” or “1-0-1”, and the app sets the times from your family’s meal times. Each reminder names the person and the medicine, with Taken and Snooze right on the notification.

Losartan 50 mg · after breakfast
How to set it up
Three steps.
Add a medicine
Type it as the prescription has it, for example “Metformin 500 twice a day after food”. Doctor’s shorthand works too: OD, BD, TDS, 1-0-1.
Check the schedule
Choose how often it’s taken, before or after food, and how long the course runs. The times follow your family’s meal times.
Get reminded
At each dose time a notification names the person and the medicine. Tap Taken or Snooze without opening the app.
What does a reminder look like?
The notification’s title is the time and the person, such as “9:00 am · Dad”. Below it are the medicines due and when to take them: “Losartan 50 mg · after breakfast”. When several of one person’s medicines are due together they arrive as one notification, so five tablets at breakfast make a single reminder.
Taken marks the dose. Snooze brings the reminder back in 30 minutes, once. Both work with the app closed and without signal; the mark goes up when the phone is next online.
Which schedules can it follow?
Times come from your family’s meal times (breakfast at 9:00 am, lunch at 2:00 pm, dinner at 7:00 pm and bed at 10:00 pm until you change them), so “after food” lands half an hour after the meal. Any dose time can also be set by hand.
- Every day, every other day, specific days, once a week or once a month
- In cycles of 21 days on and 7 days off
- When needed, with no reminders, logged as often as it’s taken
- Before food, after food, with food or on an empty stomach
- Until you stop it, or a course of up to 90 days
- Tablets in halves, or measured doses in ml, units, puffs, drops or sprays
What happens when a dose isn’t marked?
If a family member’s dose isn’t marked within the time you choose, you get one notification: “Still waiting · Dad”, saying which dose isn’t marked yet. The wait is 30 minutes unless you change it, from 15 minutes to 2 hours, or turn it off. AlongWell sends that note once and doesn’t repeat it.
Each evening at 9:00 pm (or another time you pick) a short summary says what everyone took: “You: 1 of 1 taken · Mum: 1 taken, 1 skipped, 1 not marked”.
Can I see what was taken?
Each medicine’s page shows how many doses were taken in the last 7 days or all time, and lists every dose with who marked it. Skipped and not recorded are counted apart, so a skipped dose never looks like a forgotten one. The dose log goes back 14 days.
What AlongWell won’t do
AlongWell reminds you of the dose you enter from the prescription. It never works out an amount, suggests one or says what to do about a missed dose. It has no medicine database, so it shows no side effects or interactions. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about those.
Questions
Can my phone remind me to take my medicine?
Yes. Add the medicine to AlongWell and your phone shows a notification at each dose time, naming the medicine, with Taken and Snooze buttons. AlongWell is free on iPhone and Android.
Can I set medicine reminders for my parents?
Yes. Add your parents to your family in AlongWell, then add their medicines. Their reminders come to your phone, or each parent can get them on WhatsApp instead, without installing anything.
Does AlongWell understand prescription shorthand like BD or 1-0-1?
Yes. Type the medicine as the prescription has it. AlongWell reads times a day written as OD, BD, TDS or 1-0-1, food timing such as “after food”, and bedtime words such as HS. You check the schedule before it’s saved.
What happens if a dose is missed?
If a family member’s dose isn’t marked within the time you set (30 minutes unless you change it), you get one “Still waiting” notification naming the person and the dose. AlongWell doesn’t keep repeating it, and it never says what to do about a missed dose.
Does AlongWell tell me how much medicine to take?
No. You enter the dose the prescription gives, and AlongWell reminds you of it. It never works out or suggests an amount.
